LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – St. Vincent De Paul is asking community members to donate frozen food items to help meet growing needs at its food pantry and meal program.
The organization said one in seven Kentuckians faces food insecurity, including one in five children. It reported its food pantry served an average of 152 households per day in June, a 58% increase compared to last year. The Open Hand Kitchen, which provides prepared meals, served 2,545 more meals in June than it did in June 2025.
SVDP said changes in the regional food supply have also reduced the availability of some items it typically receives through its partnership with Dare to Care, increasing the need for community donations.
