Highlands groups drop ‘moist’ petitions as Louisville makes task force permanent

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Louisville leaders and neighborhood groups say they’ve reached an agreement to tackle ongoing safety concerns along Bardstown Road in the Highlands. One big change is that the city’s Summer Task Force is sticking around for good.

City officials say the Highlands remains one of Louisville’s biggest draws for visitors, but in recent months residents and businesses have also dealt with issues like fights, gun violence, drag racing, public intoxication and noise complaints, especially in the entertainment district.

Those concerns led a group of neighbors to start the process of filing petitions to declare three precincts along Bardstown Road “moist.” But now, the Mayor’s Office, the Louisville Hospitality Association, neighborhood groups and Metro Councilman Ben Reno-Weber’s office say they’ve put together a shared plan and the petitioners are pausing their effort…
