Sunday afternoon turned serious in Forward Township when an all-terrain vehicle flipped in steep woods off Eckstein Road, sending a rider to a Pittsburgh hospital by helicopter.
Emergency crews had to climb down into a ravine off the 100 block of Eckstein Road to reach the injured man, who had suffered a head injury. Rescuers then carried him back up through the woods to a waiting medical helicopter. The ATV itself was later located roughly 75 yards down the hillside in thick brush.
According to dispatchers, multiple crews were called in to get the rider out, as reported by ButlerRadio. The outlet reports that the man was flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital with a head injury. Authorities have not released his name or provided any update on his condition.
