WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment provided insight into a fish kill in a neighborhood pond in northwest Wichita as a massive cleanup effort begins.
Late last week, KDHE responded to a report of a large number of dead fish that surfaced in a privately owned Homeowners Association pond in the Chadsworth neighborhood near 21st and Maize Road. This week, KDHE attributed the cause to “natural low dissolved oxygen conditions caused by rainfall runoff and high temperatures.”
“During the response, it was noted that the adjacent publicly operated Pracht Wetlands was in good health, with no aquatic mortalities observed, KDHE said. ”There were a few dead fish observed in a nearby stormwater drainage channel that had puddles in it but no flow of water.”…
