“The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory for New Bedford, and most of Bristol County and Rhode Island, through 8 p.m. Wednesday. Heat index values over 95 degrees are expected in the City.
In response to the extreme weather, Mayor Jon Mitchell has announced the City will continue its practice of designating public libraries as cooling centers. Residents needing to cool off on Wednesday can visit the following libraries, which have air conditioning and staff on hand to provide assistance:
- Main library, 613 Pleasant St. – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Casa da Saudade, 58 Crapo St. – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Howland-Green, 3 Rodney French Blvd. – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Wilks – 1119 Acushnet Ave. – 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
City beaches will be open and staffed with lifeguards, and several City parks have splash pads available to help youngsters cool off…
