Former die-cast toy factory may get Rockford landmark status

ROCKFORD — A former tool-and-die shop where miniature die-cast vehicles were once made may be granted landmark status in the city.

The former A & E Tool and Gage, 1202 Eddy Ave., was designed in the Streamline Moderne architectural style that focuses on aerodynamic, smooth and curved building edges. Those features were why the 77-year-old building earned initial approval for landmark status on Tuesday from the city’s Historic Preservation Commission.
