Rescue crews describe Missouri flood response

ST. LOUIS – Members of a rescue task force from the St. Louis area share stories about what they faced over the weekend when called out to help with flash flooding rescues near Lesterville.

Les Crews, the coordinator for the Urban Search and Rescue teams, got the call around 4 a.m. Friday that local crews needed help quickly after ten inches of rain fell in the black river area.

Crews sent strike teams to the area, and they were in the water just a few hours later. Firefighters on scene say they even had trouble getting to the area due to flooded roads. Once they arrived, they encountered one rescue after the next. People were stranded in buildings, atop cars, on rooftops, and in trees.
