BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – THE NEXT 24 HOURS: This morning, the sky remains mostly cloudy with temperatures in the low 70s. Widely scattered showers and storms will continue today. While it won’t rain everywhere all day, plan for a passing shower or storm as the broad area of low pressure continues to sit and spin across the state. Afternoon temperatures will be in the mid and upper 80s. Overnight, expect lows in the 70s.
THROUGH THE WEEKEND: On Thursday and Friday, expect a good mix of sun and clouds before afternoon showers and thunderstorms redevelop. Highs will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s, with heat index values nearing 100 degrees. Scattered showers and storms remain possible each afternoon through the weekend. Highs over the weekend return to the low 90s, with heat index values over 100 degrees.
THE LONG RANGE: Forecast guidance points to highs in the mid-90s early next week, with isolated afternoon thunderstorms. Heat index values could reach 105 (as shown in the line graph) by Monday and Tuesday. This is your First Alert: if that occurs, a heat advisory could be issued.
