EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A yellow haze hanging over Rhode Island on Wednesday was the result of wildfire smoke drifting south from Canada, prompting an air quality alert across the state.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said ozone levels were expected to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, while fine particle pollution is also elevated. Children, older adults and people with asthma or other lung conditions are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity.
