Tallahassee man sentenced to 4 years in federal prison for stolen valor

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WMBB) – A Tallahassee man has been sentenced to 4 years of federal imprisonment for collecting VA benefits while pretending to be a decorated U.S. Army Veteran.

Court records show that in April of 2022, Michel Duane Dyson, 46, fraudulently applied for VA benefits, claiming to have served in combat with the U.S. Army and having been awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Dyson was never an active or reserve member of any branch of the United States armed forces…
