Charge reduced after Ferguson officer injured during Michael Brown protest

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Prosecutors have reduced a criminal charge against a man accused of injuring a Ferguson police officer during a 2024 protest that marked 10 years since Michael Brown’s death.

On August 9, 2024, Officer Travis “TJ” Brown suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was knocked to the ground during the protest near Ferguson police headquarters.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office originally charged Elijah Gantt, 30, with first-degree assault over Brown’s injuries, but the charge was recently amended to second-degree assault…
