Madison school board boost raises to 4.75%, adds three positions in revised budget

Madison County teachers and staff will receive a 4.75% pay increase under a revised fiscal year 2027 budget approved Monday night, after school board members said they pushed as far as they could without cutting positions.

The Madison County School Board also added three positions to the budget: an ESL teacher, one primary aide, and one aide for Waverly Yowell Middle School. Members said the package reflects a priority on retention and classroom support.

“Teacher retention is ultimately our goal,” board member Mitch Dickey said before the vote. Dickey added that the board had promised to try for a full 1% above the state-backed increase, but “we did have to make some tough decisions.”…
