Newark DAR member honored for Revolutionary War painting

A local woman’s watercolor painting earned third place in the Daughters of the American Revolution’s American Heritage Contest.

Nina Chang, a member of the Cooch’s Bridge Chapter of DAR, was presented her award in Washington, D.C., at Continental Congress on June 27.

The contest theme was “The Road to Independence — Acts of Rebellion and Treason.” Chang titled her painting “The Seditious Circuit” in honor of the American colonists who participated in many acts of defiance against the British Crown. Some of these acts were illegal and could have landed them in jail or hanged. But independence meant so much that they were willing to risk it all…
