COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A parasitic outbreak is becoming a growing issue across the nation causing severe gastrointestinal issues, according to medical officials.
According to Piedmont Quick Care Family Practitioner Nurse Brandy Jenkins, the parasitic-caused illness, known as cyclosporiasis, is contracted by consuming food or water contaminated with the parasite.
Jenkins says cyclosporiasis, or “explosive diarrhea,” can be treated orally at home through means of hydration, probiotics or a strict diet. However, if symptoms continue to persist for more than five to seven days, it is recommended to seek medical attention…
