Virginia Department of Social Services office evacuated after staff receive threats

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) office was evacuated Friday and remained closed over the past few days after officials said they received threats directed at the building.

According to a VDSS spokesperson, the department’s home office building in Henrico County was evacuated on Friday, July 10, after staff received “threatening comments” through a hotline. The Virginia State Police were called to the scene and they worked to secure the building and its premises.

VDSS said there are no active threats at this time following a VSP investigation, and the building reopened as of Wednesday night. The facility was closed over the weekend, which VDSS said was to ensure the safety of staff and visitors while the investigation was underway…
