COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Happy Thursday! We are tracking a few stray storms as temperatures reached into the low-90s.
Rest of the Week: Spotty showers and storms will continue tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures will stay in the low-90s. An area of low pressure will begin to form over the next two days in the Gulf. This will bring elevated rain chances this weekend.
Heat Dome: Across the Southeast, a heat dome is setting up this weekend and next week. This will bring another round of dangerous heat. Heat index temperatures could rise above 105 degrees by midweek. With little chance of rain until the end of the week, relief from the heat is slim.
TROPICS: We are also keeping a close eye on the disturbance in the Gulf. Development chances remain very low at just 20 percent at this time. If it happens to strengthen and become a named storm… the next name up is Bertha.
Northeast Smoke: Over 80 million Americans are under Air Quality alerts today. Parts of New York and Detroit have had AQI levels well over 200, which is very dangerous. All of this smoke is coming from Canadian wildfires to the north…
