VMHC to host ‘Barbie: A Cultural Icon’ with 250+ vintage dolls, exclusive experiences

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It will soon be a Barbie world at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture.

The VMHC is hosting an iconic exhibition this fall to celebrate 65 years of Barbie in fashion, media and cultural evolution. From Oct. 17 to Jan. 18, 2027, Richmonders can head to the VMHC for the “Barbie: A Cultural Icon” experience featuring more than 250 vintage dolls, original fashion designs and exclusive designer interviews.

Visitors can also expect to trace the evolution of Barbie from a child’s toy to a global icon and see the style trends, careers and identities that she has embodied since her debut in 1959, the event description reads…
