Kenny Chesney Breaks Country Music Record Held by Legends George Strait and Tim McGraw

Additional Coverage:

More than three decades after his first country radio hit, Kenny Chesney continues to make history on Billboard’s charts.

This week, the country music icon surpassed fellow legends George Strait and Tim McGraw by achieving the most top 10 hits on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. Chesney’s newest single, “Carry On,” climbed to No. 9 on the July 25 Country Airplay chart, earning 18 million audience impressions during the tracking week. This milestone marks Chesney’s 62nd career top 10 hit on the chart, breaking the previous tie with Strait and McGraw, who each have 61.

Just two months earlier, Chesney celebrated another impressive achievement when “Carry On” became his 100th career entry on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, placing him among an elite group of artists to reach that milestone.

“Carry On” also represents a landmark for Hey Now Records, the Nashville label Chesney joined this year. It is the label’s first top 10 hit on the Country Airplay chart since its founding by industry veterans Clint Higham, John Esposito, and Kris Lamb.

Billboard highlights Chesney’s longstanding dominance in country radio. Alongside holding the record for most top 10s, he also leads with 33 No. 1 hits on Country Airplay. His songs have amassed a combined 1,742 weeks on the chart, second only to Tim McGraw.

Notably, “Carry On” reached the top 10 in just its 10th week on the chart-Chesney’s 34th song to achieve this rapid ascent-underscoring the enduring appeal of his music.

Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2025, Chesney’s latest record is a testament to his lasting impact and continued success in country music.
