New Kensington man sentenced for assault on police officer

A New Kensington man was ordered to serve up to five years in prison for an assault against a city police officer.

The officer was injured as he attempted to make an arrest for the alleged assault that occurred months earlier of a man outside of a convenience store.

Luther Boyd, 44, was convicted in April by a Westmoreland County jury in three separate cases including the April 2025 confrontation with a New Kensington police. Prosecutors said Boyd fought back as police attempted to take him into custody. One officer was injured…
