WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks issued a new public health advisory on Friday due to blue-green algae.
Harmful algal blooms can look like foam, scum, or paint floating on the water. They can also vary in color from blue, green, brown and red.
Those who’ve been exposed to harmful algae toxins may experience symptoms such as rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sore throat, and/or headaches. The severity of these symptoms depends on the level of exposure, which can occur through skin contact, ingestion, or inhalation.

- Pony Creek Lake, Brown County (Added July 17)
- Lakeside Park Lake, McPherson County (Added July 17)
- Colwich City Lake, Sedgwick County (Added July 17)
- Chisholm Ridge Ponds (Clearwater), Sedgwick County (Elevated July 17)
- Lake Charles, Ford County
- Gathering Pond, Geary County
- King Lake, Lyon County
- Marion Reservoir, Marion County
- Lake Afton, Sedgwick County
