Louisiana completes the second half of a fishing doubleheader this week when the International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo gets one year closer to its 100th anniversary Thursday on our state’s only inhabited barrier island.
The tour de force began in 1928 on Grand Isle, when the 8-mile isle was more fishing village than fishing destination.
Being 99 years old, it can lay claim to being the oldest saltwater fishing event in our country, and, with the City Park (New Orleans) Big Bass Rodeo — the longest-running freshwater fishing celebration in the U.S. — the continuation of both adds another feather in our state’s fishing cap…
