Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm, famously known as Sporty Spice from the iconic Spice Girls, tied the knot with Australian model Chris Dingwall on July 18 in a serene lakeside ceremony in Cumbria, England. For fans of the legendary pop group, the wedding was not just a celebration of love but also a delightful mini Spice Girls reunion.
In a special touch, Mel C’s wedding gown was designed by none other than her former bandmate Victoria Beckham. The elegant lace-and-satin dress was custom-made for the occasion, following a previous moment when Beckham had lent Mel C one of her own dresses for the couple’s legal ceremony in Australia after an original order couldn’t be altered in time.
“Victoria’s dress was my ‘something borrowed,’” Mel C shared with British Vogue. “It was very special.”
Beckham expressed her enthusiasm for the project, telling British Vogue, “I obviously offered to make her dream dress.” The celebration brought together several Spice Girls, with Beckham joined by Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner. Their presence gave fans a rare and heartwarming glimpse of three of the five women who changed pop music history with hits like “Wannabe,” “Spice Up Your Life,” and “2 Become 1.”
Mel C revealed that marriage wasn’t something she had always envisioned for herself. “I wasn’t a girl who grew up dreaming about her dress…I was always just focused on my career.”
However, her perspective shifted after meeting Dingwall on the dating app Raya in 2023. The couple became engaged during a romantic trip to Mallorca last summer and quietly made their union official in Australia before the English celebration.
Having Beckham involved throughout the process made the experience even more meaningful for Mel C. “Victoria was so excited about being able to do this for me,” she said.
“Having her and Scarlet (her daughter) there every step of the way has been very special.” Clearly, the spirit of Girl Power remains strong, as the Spice Girls continue to prove that true friendship endures beyond the spotlight.
