BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — Evacuations have been ordered for some Berkeley County residents as firefighters work to contain a wildfire burning in the Francis Marion National Forest east of Shulerville.
The Horse Island Fire, which was discovered around 4 p.m. Saturday, has burned approximately 15 acres about two miles east of Shulerville, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The North Berkeley Fire Department, working alongside the U.S. Forest Service, has ordered mandatory evacuations for residents on Cane Swamp Lane and the west side of Tiger Corner Road. Officials said residents in those areas should leave immediately and remain away until law enforcement determines it is safe to return.
