Masonry crew catches copper theft suspects in Watervliet

WATERVLIET, N.Y. (WNYT)- Masons working at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church helped police track people accused of stealing copper downspouts from the building.

A crew from Davco Masonry was working at the church Saturday when people ripped copper downspouts from the outside of the building. Jason Zakrzewski and Zach Dayter were heading out to get materials when other masons at the job told them about the theft.

They went looking for the car, spotted it and followed it to keep it in sight while police were on the way. At one point, one person got out and ran, and Zakrzewski said the car later got stuck on some tracks as police arrived…
