Louisiana isn’t known for buffalo sauce, but this Lafayette wing sauce may change your mind

If you become known as the “wing guys,” it just makes sense to craft a wing sauce that’s so delicious, it spawns a business of its own.

That’s how university friends Justin Trascher’s and Brett House’s sauce first started getting noticed — they were always the ones to throw wings on the grill when friends came by. Their circle, a tight-knit group from the Kappa Sigma fraternity at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, all lived in the Freetown neighborhood near campus — creating the kind of social environment that naturally included a lot of barbecue.

“We kind of made a name for ourselves just being the two guys that can pretty much be handed a group of ingredients, and make something out of it,” said Trascher.

Houses’s mother was involved in the Gifting Grace Project, which is an Acadiana charity that supports unhouses students. Gifting Grace’s main fundraiser is the annual Wing Wars event, held each spring in Lafayette’s Parc International. Before they knew it, the friends were tapped to make their signature wings for the popular charity event in 2023…
