ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The fifth annual Warren Mackey Golf Classic kicked off Monday, raising funds for free summer camp, youth programs, college scholarships and preventative cancer screenings. It’s all in honor of a man who dedicated his life to community action. Monday was a day to celebrate the life and lasting impact of Warren Mackey, as his loved ones continue to turn grief into purpose.
“My dad, Warren Mackey, passed away February 1, 2021, from congestive heart failure, and he was known as a very big community father and community pillar here in Albany,” said Madison Mackey, Warren’s daughter and co-founder of the event. “We wanted to continue his memory and keep his legacy alive. So we provide support to the underserved community, youth and heart and cancer related initiatives.”
In the wake of his loss, they founded the Warren and Denyse Mackie Foundation, with a shared goal of empowering underserved communities by providing necessary resources.

“We’re offering seven free weeks of summer camp for kids in the city of Albany, from basketball to hair braiding camp to STEM,” noted Madison. “We also have a college ready set program called Ready Set Apply, which prepares high school seniors, getting them ready for their upcoming applications.”…
