WICHITA, Kan. — A Wichita organization is teaching area youth how to become men, and it recently received a financial boost to help continue that work.
Next Man Up, a youth program founded by Camille Davis, serves young men between the ages of 13 and 18. Davis said the program has taught participants how to do oil changes, tire changes, cooking, grilling and home improvement.
Program born from personal need
Davis said she started the program out of a need for her own son.
“Their father had a surgical complication — he’s still with us on this side of earth, but he’s not fully awake,” Davis said. “My son went through an angry phase where he didn’t understand how am I going to figure out how to be a man if my dad’s not around.”
