ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of Albuquerque’s busiest west side intersections could soon see a major change. The city is asking for public input on a redesign of a stretch of Central to keep up with the growth in the area. “This was identified in the high fatality injury network as a very busy intersection, but also a very dangerous one as well,” said Department of Municipal Development Spokesperson Gabe Chavez.

Hundreds of drivers pass through Central and 98th every day. Now, the city wants to re-imagine that intersection with what would be New Mexico’s first protected intersection, designed to slow cars down. “They’re going to have to wait. They’re going to have to make sure that they do this turn a lot slower and a lot safer,” said Chavez.
The design would also bring new sidewalks and bike lanes, improved drainage, landscaping, and a fresh look to Central from Unser, west to 98th Street. “It’s just going to look a lot more lively as we continue to expand on Albuquerque’s west side,” said Chavez…
