Malcolm-Jamal Warners Widow Sues His Mother Over $1.2 Million Dispute

Additional Coverage:

A year after the passing of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, his widow, Dr. Tenisha Delilah Warner, has initiated legal proceedings against his mother, Pamela Warner.

On July 20, Tenisha filed a lawsuit in Georgia’s DeKalb County Superior Court, asserting that she is owed over $1.2 million according to a premarital agreement. The claim includes a $1 million life insurance policy that her late husband never established before his death in July 2025.

The lawsuit outlines several promises allegedly made by Malcolm-Jamal Warner, including an annual tax-free payment of $16,000 on their wedding anniversary, contributions to her Roth IRA for the duration of their marriage, and a monthly payment of $5,000 for her role as his Chief of Staff and assistant.

Pamela Warner has been named in the suit as the successor trustee of the Warner Family Trust. Tenisha explained to ABC News that she has been trying to resolve the complex estate matters privately for the past year, striving to honor her late husband’s intentions.

“Malcolm intended to provide for our nine-year-old daughter and me,” Tenisha said. “He was in the process of updating his estate plan, which dated back to 1996-long before we were married or had our daughter. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete this before his untimely death.”

She added that as a single mother and sole provider, she felt compelled to take legal action to protect her family’s rights before any deadlines expired. She expressed gratitude for the support she has received during this difficult time, especially as the family marks the first anniversary of Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s passing.

The lawsuit requests that the court halt any distribution of trust assets while the matter is resolved.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, widely recognized for his role as Theo Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” died at age 54 during a family vacation in Costa Rica when caught in a powerful rip current.

On the anniversary of his death, Pamela Warner shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, describing her son not only as her child but also as her confidant and support. She reflected on cherished memories and the desire for just a little more time together.

As this legal matter unfolds, the family continues to navigate their loss and the complexities surrounding Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s estate.
