East Lansing leaders consider automatic parking enforcement system

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — East Lansing leaders are considering deploying new technology that would automatically identify parking violations and mail citations directly to drivers.

The proposal, expected to be discussed during Tuesday’s city council meeting, would allow the city to partner with Municipal Parking Services to install solar-powered devices known as “SafetySticks” throughout downtown.

According to city documents, the devices photograph vehicles parked illegally and capture identifying information, including the vehicle, date and time of the violation. Violations would go through a review process before citations are given…
