The work of a ‘death doula’: How to help someone die peacefully

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Most of us aren’t good talking about death. We know it will happen to us. We know someone we love will die. We know it will be sad and that the word “sad” doesn’t even come close to measuring our losses. All that and we still most of us don’t plan for the inevitable.

But a death doula’s role it is to provide compassionate support to people who are dying or facing the death of a loved one.

“I always describe end-of-life — or death doula — is it’s someone who provides a compassionate presence at end-of-life, and that can take a variety of different forms,” Julie Raymond explained…
