NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Newly obtained public records show what North Charleston police failed to document after an improper response to a child welfare call that later ended with the infant’s death.
Former North Charleston Police Department officer Seth Worrell is charged with misconduct in office and failure to report child abuse. The infant’s mother, Janette Clayton, 27, has been arrested and charged with three counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.
The charges follow the June 18 death of an 11-month-old baby found inside an insect-infested apartment at the 2200 block of Eleanor Drive. During the preliminary investigation, police said they learned officers had previously responded to the same residence.
