Local Resident’s Lawsuit Leads to State Law Banning Rent-Fixing Algorithms

Prodded by a Jersey City resident’s lawsuit and the efforts of a freshman assemblywoman, New Jersey has banned the use of rent-setting algorithms that allowed large landlords to collude with one another, in violation of antitrust laws. This week, the Garden State became the fourth in the nation to ban the use of such algorithms.
