DENVER (KDVR) – The GEO Group employee accused of shooting at two protestors near the Aurora ICE facility, striking one in the foot, has officially been criminally charged.
New affidavit reveals suspect’s account of Aurora ICE facility shooting
According to a release from the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, 42-year-old Brandon Booth is charged with the following:
- Assault in the first-degree
- Attempted assault in the first-degree
The incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on July 16, when Aurora police responded to the report of a shooting in the 3100 block of North Nome Street.
The arrest affidavit showed that Booth admitted to investigators to intentionally pulling the trigger; however, that he was simply trying to scare the protestors and never intended to hit anybody.

Booth was placed on unpaid administrative leave by his employer, The GEO Group, which operates the facility under a contract with the federal government.
