LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Extravagant partying, poolside cabanas, and gambling: that’s just some of what the chief of staff for former Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield says he got up to on trips with lobbyists.
Chatfield was back in Ingham County 30th Circuit Court Wednesday morning, just days after his wife, Stephanie Chatfield, was sentenced for embezzlement. The Emmett County Republican is accused of 13 felonies, including conducting a criminal enterprise and embezzlement.
Two of Chatfield’s top aides, Chief of Staff Robert Minard and his wife Anne, agreed to testify against their former boss, as part of a plea agreement last fall. Wednesday Circuit Court Judge Morgan E. Cole had to determine just how much of what they told investigators can be used against Chatfield.
According to court documents, Robert Minard detailed in an interview with the Attorney General’s office 12 trips he went on with Chatfield from 2015 to 2020. That includes trips to Jacksonville, Miami and Aspen that occurred while Chatfield was Speaker of the House…
