Amid a late accusation, apology and a response to an assault charge, Roanoke’s Democratic city council primary to be decided on Aug. 4

From now until Aug. 4, Roanoke voters will decide which three of five Democratic city council candidates will advance to the November election.

The outcome of a Democratic primary often sets the course for the general election in a city where Democrats have dominated council races for decades. In 2024, Nick Hagen was the first Republican to be elected to the council in over two decades.
