OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Oklahoma City Leaders broke ground on the MAPS 4 Clara Luper Civil Rights Center on Wednesday.
The center’s namesake, Clara Luper, was an educator, Civil Rights leader, and advisor for Oklahoma City’s NAACP Youth Council. Luper and her students took part in hundreds of sit-in demonstrations during the Civil Rights Movement, working to desegregate establishments across Oklahoma.
