Spokane library warns service cuts could start by September

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Public Library may start cutting services by September if it does not secure at least $2.3 million in city funding to cover a budget shortfall.

Library leaders said the problem did not come from overspending.

“The city ran into their own budget shortfall. We were facing potential cuts. We used our reserve savings account, basically to cover for that shortfall. We are now in year 2 or 3 of that situation and our reserves are now depleted,” Chanse said…
