WESTWOOD, MA — A 32-year-old man from Walpole died after the SUV he was driving struck a utility pole and then crashed into a hotel along Route 1 in Westwood on Monday afternoon.
Police said the crash happened around 4 p.m. near an Interstate 95 off-ramp. The driver was taken to a Boston hospital with severe injuries and was later pronounced dead. He has not been publicly identified.
Power out and damage at the hotel
The vehicle was a Nissan Rogue, according to police. Investigators said it hit the pole first, knocking it down, then kept going into the nearby Budget Inn.
The hotel sustained major damage, though officials said it was not structural. The crash also knocked out power in the area.
Service restored by Tuesday morning
