Costco buys former TGI Friday’s to build new gas station, more parking in Coon Rapids

Costco has completed the purchase of a former TGI Friday’s building as it moves ahead with plans to add more parking spaces and build a new, larger gas station in Coon Rapids.

A certificate of real estate value confirmed that the retail giant paid $5.5 million for the plot of land at 12519 Riverdale Blvd., which was home to a TGI Friday’s restaurant that was one of several that closed in Minnesota as the chain went through bankruptcy proceedings last year.

The property is adjacent to Costco’s Coon Rapids store, and the purchase will see the two plots combined into one, enabling the retailer to realize long-mooted plans to double the size of its gas station, as well as add 128 more parking spaces.

Costco will demolish the former TGI Friday’s building in the southwest corner of its property and relocate its gas station there, creating space for 20 pumps compared to the 10 at its current gas station to the north of the store…
