Work Begins on Public Market at The RiverFront

Work is beginning on a year-round, indoor, nonprofit public market located at 8th & Farnam Street overlooking Heartland of America Park downtown. The site is east of the Brickline building.

Heritage Omaha is leading the project and working with Project for Public Spaces, a global leader in placemaking “that believes that great public spaces can strengthen communities,” according to a press release from Heritage Omaha. The philanthropic organization has secured the necessary funding from philanthropic supporters to begin work on the site. The 3-story, 52,000 sq. ft. market is expected to open in 2028.

The public market aims to create “a vibrant destination for people to gather while shopping from local small businesses selling a variety of fresh, prepared and specialty foods as well as locally-made goods,” according to Heritage Omaha…
