MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Zelda Fitzgerald was not only a Montgomery legend, but a world-renowned artist. She was a novelist, painter, writer and socialite whose works helped shape American literature. Troy Public Radio marked her birthday with an event in her honor at her former Cloverdale home.
“Zelda was a multi-talented southern woman, born and raised in Montgomery to very, very intellectual parents,” said Maire Martello, president of the Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum. “And she developed very quickly into a girl of tremendous popularity and beauty. And of course, she became a very talented author, dancer, and painter.”
Martello said Zelda Fitzgerald’s writing gives a unique look into the lives of young women in Montgomery in the early 20th century.
“Save Me the Waltz is, it’s a woman’s novel, and I always try to encourage women to read it,” Martello said. “It’s a look within a woman and her place in the world, and she tells the story of her life. It’s very autobiographical. She tells it in a very lyrical and beautiful way.”…
