SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – We’re tracking another warm and humid day across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry, with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s and heat index values climbing into the triple digits. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening. Today, we’re under a low-end risk for severe weather, meaning a few storms could become strong with damaging wind gusts over 60 mph. In addition, much of the area is under a low to medium risk for excessive rainfall, especially closer to the coast. Any storm that stalls could produce torrential downpours, leading to ponding on roads and minor flooding. A few showers and storms may linger into tonight before conditions begin to dry out.
Monday marks the start of a hotter and drier pattern. High temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 90s, with heat index values well above 105°. While a few isolated afternoon and evening storms remain possible, widespread rain is not expected. We are not expecting a severe weather threat or an excessive rainfall risk on Monday.
As the stalled front lifts back to our north, Tuesday and Wednesday will be even hotter and drier. Only a stray shower is possible, and many locations could approach or even reach the 100° mark both afternoons which is close to record highs of 102° (1949) and 103° (1993). The hot, humid, and mainly dry pattern continues through Thursday and Friday. Looking ahead to next weekend, rain chances are expected to increase once again as moisture returns to the region.
In the tropics, there is nothing to track at this time. No new development is expected, but we’ll continue to monitor the Atlantic closely as we move closer to the peak of hurricane season…
