Marietta to consider previously denied rezoning from housing developer

The Marietta City Council will consider a request to rezone about 38 acres of land for a housing development the council previously denied last year at a special-called meeting Tuesday evening.

The proposed development — which consists of parcels at 787 Horizon Lane and 720 Wilshire Ave., near Allgood Road — would include 125 detached, single-family style homes, according to city documents. The developer is asking the city council to rezone the land from light industrial to residential to make way for the project.

The developer, Woodstock-based Piedmont Residential, previously submitted a request in early 2025 to build 190 townhomes on the site, but was denied in March of that year by the Marietta City Council…
