COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A stationary front and an upper-level piece of energy will work together to trigger scattered storms this afternoon. Most areas, however, will stay dry under partly sunny skies.

- 40% chance of rain and storms Sunday.
- Above-average highs early in week.
- Next frontal passage likely Tuesday evening.
First Alert Summary:
Other than a spotty shower this morning, keep an eye to the sky for scattered storms possible this afternoon. A stalled front sitting just to our south will keep about a 40% chance of showers and storms in the forecast, especially this afternoon.
One or two storms may become severe with damaging wind gusts being the main threat. The Storm Prediction Center has the Midlands outlooked under a ‘Marginal 1/5 Risk” for severe storm development.
Rain chances decrease somewhat, but don’t go away, heading into the new workweek. In addition, highs will climb well into the 90s early in the week. Heat indices will return to the triple digits ahead of our next front.
Depending on the timing of this front, rain chances will increase as it approaches late Tuesday into Wednesday. This front will also weaken and slow down Tuesday into Wednesday, likely stalling to our south by Thursday.
Waves of low pressure forming along the stalled boundary will likely contribute to rain chances Friday into next weekend. On the northern side of this boundary, we may tap into some relatively drier air with slightly lower dew points and a dip in humidity levels…
