Tacoma should improve public space
Tacoma was proud to be one of Washington’s official FIFA World Cup Fan Zones. The event was successful, and many people worked hard to make it happen. This isn’t a criticism of the organizers or volunteers. It’s simply a reflection on what comes next.
Reading about Renton’s Legacy Square made me wonder what Tacoma could have built if we had viewed the World Cup through the same lens. Rather than simply hosting watch parties, Renton invested in permanent downtown infrastructure that will support concerts, movies, markets and community events for years to come.
