MPD officer-involved shooting: a timeline of events and key updates

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Demonstrators continue to gather in downtown Madison days after Corey Ruiz was shot and killed by a Madison police officer on Wednesday. WMTV continues to follow the new developments.

On Wednesday afternoon, while responding to a call, police say they got into a ‘struggle’ with a man, and an officer was allegedly injured with a knife.

Police said officers tried to use a taser, before an officer shot and killed Corey Ruiz.

The community quickly began to gather in the area of Williamson Street, and on Thursday, a vigil and protests continued to grow. City officials later held a press conference sharing more details on the incident.
