ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Hundreds of students in Rockford will begin the new school year with essential supplies after ICNA Rockford distributed 350 free backpacks and school supplies to students from low-income families.
The event marked the 14th consecutive year for the organization’s annual back-to-school backpack drive, specifically targeting the west side of Rockford. The local giveaway is part of ICNA’s nationwide Back-to-School Program, which has distributed more than 1 million backpacks to students across the country since 2008.
Organizers said the event brings together volunteers, businesses and community partners to ensure students are prepared for the new school year.
