LEXINGTON, SC — A body was found Wednesday in Lexington during the search for a 39-year-old South Carolina woman who was reported missing late last week. Police said the discovery came after a public tip pointed investigators to the area near North Lake Drive and Old Cherokee Road.
Elena Katherine Moore was last seen Thursday evening after leaving a Planet Fitness in Lexington and walking toward a wooded area. Authorities said the body was located at about 2:48 p.m. after a search began earlier in the afternoon.
How the search unfolded in Lexington
Lexington police Chief Terrence Green said the tip suggested Moore had been seen in the area between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday. Officers launched a search at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and found the body a little more than an hour later.
Green said the body appeared to match the missing woman’s clothing description. Moore was last seen wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants, according to authorities.
