Lightning-caused wildfire burns on Wassaw Island

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – A wildfire on Wassaw Island is still burning, the Georgia Forestry Commission confirmed in an update Monday.

Officials said the lightning-caused wildfire is slowly burning on the island’s north end, where it is under close observation by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Sunday, GFC pilots conducted an aerial patrol of the fire and said the wildfire is burning through heavy storms. Officials said there are currently no threats to lives, structures, roadways or nearby communities…
